Back in April I was contact by my good friends at World of Sound about shooting the studio elements of a new Online Brass Band Festival. As the European Brass Band Championships (EBBC) couldn’t take place physically, due to the pandemic response, the EBBA and World of Brass decided to put on an Online Festival, covering the 2003-2019 European Championships, which had all been filmed for DVD and on-demand streaming. The new Online Festival was to be screened across World of Brass’ new online streaming platform wobplay over the weekend in May the EBBC event was planned to be held.
Between 2004-2014 I personally covered the EBBC event across Europe, including filming in Norway, Switzerland, Netherlands & the UK, as a camera operator then latterly as a Live Video Director. So it was lovely to be asked back to cover this ground breaking new venture!
Hosted by brass superstars Frank Renton & Helen Varley, they walked the audience though the weekend. Featuring; music, interviews with Conductors, Musicians, Composers & Sponsors, both physically and virtually via Zoom, and Frank in discussion with Paul Hindmarsh.
We made use of my Sony FS7 Shooting Package, along with my LED & Tungsten Lighting Kit, Autocue & Floor Monitor for the two day shoot.
All in all it was a very busy but extremely rewarding two days filming with different ‘set’ changes for two person chats, pieces to camera, virtual interviews and stand up pieces too.
You can watch all of the European Brass Band Championships highlights from 2003-2019 on wobplay.
